Just south of Cloudcroft, in the Lincoln National Forest lies the National Solar Observatory overlooking the vast Tularosa Basin. It's beautifully located in the cool forest pines at Sunspot, where scientist study the sun.

The National Solar Observatory is open 7 days a week during daytime hours for self-guided tours throughout the grounds. Also, on the grounds is a very interactive, educational Visitors Center and Gift shop to enjoy before you leave the site.
